CALIFORNIA RESTAURANT, CAFE, BAR & PUB HISTORY - CHRONOLOGY
A few major disclaimers. First these are only restaurants and bars that appear on this site (mostly Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego). There are scores of places I have not gotten to. In addition, there are plenty of places on this site I have not been able to find a date of establishment for. The dates I use are based usually on the owner's claims that I take on good faith. There are many different ways of calculating dates of inception (same owner, same location, date the building was constructed, etc. ) I have given some places credit for the building's inception as a restaurant even if the name and owner has changed. I've tried to give "chains" credit for their first restaurant (but I did not have that information for every chain). So for those places not listed, people and owners are free to contact me if you have some dependable basis for your information. latimema2 at latimemachines.com (recopy using the @ symbol) In summary - this table is not terribly accurate! I'm always a bit surprised that the owners of these places don't contact me with tears in their eyes thanking me for this magnificent free advertising (actually I do often get emails from tourists and locals saying they have gone to many places based on the site)!
